1. MALUKU IN THE SCOPE OF
THE EARTH’S ECOLOGY –AND WORLD ECONOMY.
A Local Challenge to Global Survival.
This is about the interdependency of life -and the functions of Nature and Culture which confirming the facts, that, “Any activity to conserve the natural and cultural barriers in one area might be assented and warranted as A Local Challenge to Global survival.”
By a very simple look, however, we can easily see how crucial are the functions of the walls and barriers installed between species or animals in a zoo. We can easily see also, how danger there can be if those walls and barriers are destroyed. Through this illustration, we would have seen, that:
Natural and cultural barriers between the origin populations of every soil in this planet are the God’s original creation; that had been made for countless good and most crucial reasons; most crucial than the walls of whatever zoo we would see. They are to protect the life and the rights of us as individuals; and us all as nations’ society in the world. Think also to the following facts:
“Europe is monolithic. The Europe’s nations might all look the same. But don’t think, that the Natural and Cultural barriers between Germany and the Netherlands for instance can be destroyed. Men are not super enough to face the consequences when Europe is threatened to become One Nation, One Language and One State.” These are the assumptions of total responsibility that might to be used to cope with the increasing threat of Political and Environmental Degradation in the world, in the regions of South Asia and West Melanesia, the so-called Indonesia. (See Chapter 2, /The Slaughtered of Nature and Culture in Maluku). Concerning such situation, we wish to present an overview regarding the Functions of Nature and Culture in Maluku.
We do introduce Maluku hereby, not only because it is the very soil we have. But also because it has a wide contribution in the scope of the world economy and earth ecology. In which, Its Tropical Rain Forests are the invaluable elements that are very crucial to earth’s and human’s survival. Rain Forests around the world might all look the same, they perform many different complex jobs according to the needs of human and species they contain. Even different according to the geographical position they are or situated.
1.1. The functions of nature and culture in Maluku.
The Moluccan’s Islands including the Islands of Celebes are a transitional area between Two Oceans and Two Continents. At such geographical position, Rain Forests there perform many complex jobs that affect the life of fauna and flora both in the woods and in the maritime areas in and outside those Islands.
« The wetlands, the lowlands –and Highlands Evergreen Forests in those Islands are to function as air condition and protective shield of ozone at Northern and Southern Hemisphere that affect the life of human and species in many regions of the world.
The strong, high, most various and lushes Rain Forests standing there not only to recycle water from the air that falls as rain; not only to be like home for fauna and flora « they contain. But also to clean and release rivers’ –and ground’s water in steady. And to prevent the muddy bursts that causes destructive flood and erosion."
The Banda Sea in South Maluku is installed like a basin to communicate the Great Ocean and Indish Ocean. So that during the East Season, the cool stream flow in from the Great Ocean into it full of plankton; that enabling rich fishing at the whole maritime areas in Maluku. From where, the rich and fresh streams flow forwards to the West, and there the comparative warm, dirty and poor food streams from the Indonesian’s seas can be filtered and enriched seasonally forever. The uniqueness of nature and all its resources of wealth like these are the God’s original creation that might be exploited and preserved according to the life’s norms and customary laws He gifts to the population of the very soil He installed, (See point1.4./Sasi).
1.2. Maluku in the scope of the world economy.
Maluku is richly endowed with natural wealth including various expensive minerals, which existed both in the woods and in the maritime areas. Basically the natural wealth of Maluku can be divided in two categories:
(1) The export products and,
(2) Daily needs products.
Among the countless green plants in the Moluccan’s Rain Forests that absorb CO2 as part of a complex food making process, there are clove –and nutmeg trees that made Maluku known in the World History as Spice Islands. Beside this, the sago, coco –and gamutu trees are the very important plants. That provide with almost 99% of foods and house holding materials the whole year over.
All investigation will see it clearly, that since Rain Forests in Maluku are not being damaged, Its Natural Wealth are always yielding and contribute to the world economy. Also all basic human needs, namely foods and house holding materials there can be found forever.
1.3. Maluku in the scope of earth ecology.
The maritime areas along the Island Groups Maluku, Celebes, and Nusa Tenggara forming a Great Channel, the so-called Wallacea that communicates the Great Ocean and the Indish Ocean. The Boundaries of that Channel, the so-called Bounds Wallacea existed as break lines and filter that separating and cleansing the Bright Cleans Waters/Seas along that Channel from the Muddy and Dirty Seas of the South Eastern side of Indonesian. The Boundaries also become a break line between that Channel and the Seas along the Northern –and Western side of Australia and Papua. The Islands Groups along that Channel are standing there like Natural Poles/Dykes to soft the strength of Winds and Ocean Tides that moving from one of those Oceans.
All keenly observation on he functions of Nature as described at the points 1,2 and 3 above, will see it clearly, that, «From the highest tops of the mountains to the deepest ground of the sea, the life in all part of our natural environment, including soil, plants, animals and fish are affected by the Functions of Rain Forests. If we damage Rain forests in those areas, we endanger more than just only the life of fauna and flora; we also damage the Functions of the Wallacea and the structure of earth ecology.»
1.4. Sasi, the Moluccan’s way of nature conservation and reforest station.
«sasi» is the way of nature conservation in Maluku. It is to give the chance to the soil, plants, animals and fish to regain their strength of productivity. And to let a bare ground cover again by various trees after the Forests are cut down.
In the governing system of Maluccan’s traditional society, the milieu observers are called Lau Mulaa Puuno and Ria Mulaa Puuno (Woods and Sea Observers). And Kewang(s) is (are) the guards in the woods -and sea areas The Ria Mulaa and Lau Mulaa Puuno knew why, how and when Sasi ought to be done. They see also that,
Within three to five months long a bare ground covered with the so-called Aong-muda (young jungle); that growing to become Aong-tua (Old Jungle) in three to five years long. And in five to ten years long Old Jungle growing to become Ewang-muda (Young Forests), that further growing in twenty to thirty years, to become Ewang-tua /Old Forests, the so-called Rain Forests).
Clear enough that Rain Forests are not be planted. They might be allowed to grow naturally. And through the wisdom of Sasi, the Moluccan people inhabits and farms those Islands since the ancient times without causing a single river or stream drought; or causing too many species disappeared in a relative short times.
1.5. pa’PELA LISA/PUNU RISA (= problems solving method).
In the Moluccan’s traditional society any serious problem, difficulty and tragedy is called ‘lisa or risa.’ While the divine consciousness and the way to solve any risa, is called ‘pa’PELA LISA or PUNU RISA (= uprooted the Germs of Hatred, caused by ‘the problem or tragedy.’)
And as the result of ‘pa’PELA LISA or PUNU RISA, a lasting relationship, the so-called ‘p e l a’ is established Literally ‘p e l a’ means ‘finished, over, remember to forget and, a lasting peace.’

1.6. Sama-Suru / Sovereignty.
The right meaning of Sama-Suru is ‘distributed of functions or parting to be functioned.’ The functions that are traditional in the Moluccan’s Customary Laws are among others the afore said « Ria Mulaa –and Lau Mulaa Puuno -and, the three basic power in a democratic government which are traditional in the Moluccan society. Those powers are:
- Saniri – the legislative power
- Latu Patty – the executive power and,
- Upu Hena or Latu Nusa – the juridical power.
In the period of Sama-Suru, the MORIALE/MONOLITHY of the Moluccan’s national society felt apart into Henaja (many Henas/many villages). Every Hena arose as a Polis/Village-republic that was free and sovereign, with the same governing system as mentioned above.
The situation of the Moluccan’s Henaja is comparable with the Polises in ancient Greece. In which the three basic power (Trias Politica) introduced by Montesquieu in the period preceding the French Revolution and nowadays put into practice by the Constitutional Monarchies as well as by the Democratic States in the world existed already in Maluku since ancient times.
1.7. Mena-Muria / Rediness.
Mena-Muria is the Moluccan’s national watchword; which indicates that the Moluccan’s national society existed since the beginning as an independent and sovereign people, living on her own rightful ground.
Symbolically Mena-Muria means Ready from Stem to Stern, like a ship fully equipped for a journey moving on the sea; defying all kinds of winds, currents and storms. This symbolic meaning declares Moluccan’s Existence as a nation with all its moral and materials riches.
In the era of Sama-Suru, the Moluccan’s ancestors were called upon to establish their nature and integrity a nation on this earth. After the achievement of the integrity of Maluku, Maluku thus having become the hereditary ground of Siwa-Lima (the Moluccan people), the notion Mena-Muria was enounced. This means that Nationally as well as Regionally the Moluccan society had been existed as free and sovereign people.
Literally, Mena-Muria means Alif dan Ja = the Beginning and the End. This straight meaning is an instinctive subjection to the One Power that has given them their rightful inheritance. They are therefore convinced that although they in course of time had been parted and divided seriously; time will bring them back with the help of the Power who had said I am the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega alias Mena-Muria.
The Assertion:
The functions of Nature and Culture described above reflecting it clearly, that since the beginning Maluku was politically and economically independent. And, History is still bearing witness on our behalf, that
Among the nations from East and West who made an utmost to dominate and exploit Maluku, Dutch was the One who was and still is trying to completely make an end the Moluccan freedom and sovereignty.
Hongey and Deportation was the famous Destructive-measures She committed along the l7th Century /from 1621 towards 99 onwards, to totally destroy and deny the Moluccan’s freedom and sovereignty. If the Kingdom of the Netherlands just only want to abolish Her destructive measures in Maluku, then at least,
- She would have recognised and warranted the Government of Republik Maluku Selatan / Republic of the South Moluccas) as the SURVIVOR NATIONAL ADMINSTRATION in Maluku, that had been proclaimed on April 25, l950, in Ambon City. And at most
- She might oppose the Jakarta Empire alias RI/Republik Indonesia which illegally annexed and occupied Maluku since 1950, up to now.
We don’t blind to the facts that the Moluccan’s national body had almost broken and paralysed. And more over that the tragedies 12 ears ago between Muslims and Christians there had been triggered and fed by the Jakarta Empire. As the way to completely Re-snatching the Moluccan’s society to the essence of its freedom and sovereignty. However, base on the aforementioned Functions of Nature and Culture, I can ensure the International Community of States, with complete confidence, that:
- The divine consciousness of ‘p e l a’ namely the incredible peace and brother’s relationship between Muslims and Christians in Maluku can be made heal and strength again as before; just whenever the Suppressors and all their Destructive-measures there are being abolished and dislodged. And in this case, however,
- An Administering power and a sincere-vision from the side of A Member State of the UN are urgently needed.
